Today is an important date! Yes, it’s Yummy Day! And not just any Yummy Day… the “Doudou” Yummy Day!!! Because with winter approaching, we love comforting “doudou” recipes. What’s a doudou recipe? (I can hear you asking ^^). It’s a recipe that’s comforting through its aromas, its indulgence and even its decadence, a recipe that warms you up or brings back memories… Sweet or savoury, it has to be Doudou! No suspense with me — it’s a sweet recipe I’m sharing with you today. A super-mega-simple recipe, hence its name: the “gâteau pépère” (the laid-back cake)!!! And since at the moment I love pears in desserts, here’s a pear gâteau pépère. But you can also use apples, it’s just as good (tested and re-tested for you!!). Thank you Chef Damien for the idea 🙂 This cake is incredibly soft — incredibly doudou, in short!
Ingredients & preparation
1 component · Complete recipe
Cake
- 3 eggs
- 125 g (4.4 oz) plain flour
- 140 g (4.9 oz) sugar
- 75 g (2.6 oz) milk
- 60 g (2.1 oz) groundnut oil
- 3 pears
- 1 sachet baking powder
- 1 sachet vanilla sugar
- brown sugar
- rum (optional)
Preheat the oven to 180°C / 350°F.
In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar, then add the flour, baking powder, milk, oil and a splash of rum. At this stage, you can also add citrus zest (orange, lemon or other) or spices of your choice (vanilla, cinnamon…).
Butter a tin.
Peel the pears and cut them into large cubes.
Pour the batter into the tin and scatter the pear pieces on top, spreading them out evenly.
Bake for 25 minutes, then sprinkle with brown sugar to brown the top of the cake. Return to the oven for a further 5 to 10 minutes. Test whether the cake is cooked by inserting a knife blade — it should come out clean.
Leave to cool and enjoy!
