After the SOS cookies kit, here’s the SOS muffins kit! Still to be used in emergencies only, of course ^^ I love these little kits; they’re perfect for giving as gifts and making people happy! And it’s so simple to make, it would be a shame to miss out 🙂 Don’t forget to also give the paper cases (or you can pair the jar with little silicone moulds).

For those wondering, you’ll find 1L jars at the Swedish store, but I found cheaper ones in a little shop near my home, 1.35€ for a 950 ml jar.

Ingredients & preparation

4 components · Full recipe

The 1L Jar

Ingredients
  • 250 g (8.8 oz) flour
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • a pinch of vanilla powder (tip of a knife)
  • 100 g (3.5 oz) light brown sugar
  • 100 g (3.5 oz) nuts (pecans, hazelnuts, almonds, pink pralines, M&Ms…)
  • 150 g (5.3 oz) chocolate (dark, milk, white or a mix)
Notes
1

You can of course change the kit’s contents to your liking — add some dried cranberries or other treats 🙂

What You Need to Do (to fill the jar)

Ingredients
  • None
Preparation
1

Wash the jar with hot soapy water and dry it thoroughly.

2

Mix together the flour, baking powder, salt and vanilla powder. Pour into the empty jar and pack it down firmly. Tap the jar on the counter to get a level surface.

3

Add the light brown sugar and pack it down.

4

Add the roughly chopped chocolate and spread it out evenly.

5

Finish with the roughly chopped nuts (if you toast them first, let them cool completely before adding).

6

Add 12 paper cupcake cases and seal the jar tightly.

The Labels

Next, you’ll need to make the labels. I made a round “SOS muffins” label for the top of the jar (adapted from something I found online) and a “Preparation for nut & three-chocolate muffins” label for the front, adapted from a template from the blog J’amène le dessert.

Instructions to attach to the jar:

3

Empty the contents of the jar into a bowl. Add 80 g (2.8 oz) of melted butter, 150 ml (5.1 fl oz) of milk and 2 eggs. Mix quickly and pour into the paper cases. Bake for 25 minutes at 180°C / 350°F.

4

All that’s left is to decorate the jar: a bit of raffia or curling ribbon, a pretty bow, some tissue paper and you’re done 🙂

What the Recipient Needs to Do

Ingredients
  • None
Preparation
1

Preheat the oven to 180°C / 350°F.

2

Empty the contents of the jar into a bowl and add 80 g (2.8 oz) of melted butter, 125 ml (4.2 fl oz) of milk and 2 eggs.

3

Mix quickly (a few lumps are fine!) and fill the paper cases three-quarters full (tip: use an ice cream scoop to portion the batter — much easier!).

4

Bake for 25 minutes.

5

The muffins keep well for a few days in a sealed tin.
