A Sunday in Paris: Nicolas Bacheyre’s Pastry Shop
A new sweet treat on the blog ! Thanks to Instagram and the accounts of a few food lovers I follow, I discovered the existence of the « Un Dimanche à Paris » shop. And yet it’s truly worth the detour. First of all, for its setting. Located in the sixth arrondissement of Paris, in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and right next to the Théâtre de l’Odéon, this shop has an incredible charm. Perhaps because it’s tucked away at the end of a passage — a quiet little cobbled lane, set apart from the main street.
« Un Dimanche à Paris » is not just a pastry shop — it’s also a tea room, a restaurant, a pastry lab, and even a cooking class workshop (yes, all of that!). For a bit of background, the shop was created by Pierre Cluizel, the son of chocolatier Michel Cluizel. The concept of this place therefore revolves around chocolate. And it’s Nicolas Bacheyre, recently named « best pastry rising talent 2016 » at the Relais Desserts excellence awards, who serves as head pastry chef.
The “Un Dimanche à Paris” Shop
The façade is magnificent, as warm as it is colourful. Upon entering, I’m first struck by the size of the shop. It seems enormous to me ! The shop and the tea room are connected, and you can easily see into the lab. You can’t help but feel curious !
In the shop, you’ll find a wide range of different products, not just pastries. There’s also a very varied selection of chocolates (I loved being able to taste a few chocolates with surprising flavours…). Pastry prices are in line with Parisian high-end pastry shops. My only slight downside: the price of a pastry enjoyed on-site, in the tea room, can go up to €9.50 (for a €6.20 pastry, for example, such as Le Frisson).
So I settled in at the Jardin du Luxembourg (a truly lovely spot to enjoy a delicious pastry, I must say), accompanied by my friend Hélène (who got to experience the joys of a pastry raid !). We had to be sensible (this wasn’t the only address we visited that day) and I tasted « only » 2 pastries. But one thing is certain: I will return without any hesitation to try other desserts… Nicolas Bacheyre’s pastries are so beautiful !

Tasting the Pastries
Le Frisson
light lime cream, fresh mint, lime pain de gênes biscuit, wild strawberry confit, hint of raspberry, crunchy coconut biscuit
Verdict : I simply adored this dessert ! It’s fresh, it’s light, and it almost felt like too little, I loved it so much. All the flavours blend together wonderfully without any one ever overpowering the others.

Le caramel / noisettes / chocolat au lait
Verdict : I liked this one much less, but I have to admit that I didn’t pay attention to the composition and was surprised to find a (generous) layer of salted butter caramel when I was expecting chocolate or hazelnut. Except that unlike seemingly everyone else in the world, I don’t like salted butter caramel. Oops ! On the other hand, the hazelnut chantilly was perfect, as was the dacquoise, wonderfully soft. Salted butter caramel lovers will be in heaven, that’s for sure !
